Your employer has a non-delegable duty of care to ensure your place of work is reasonably safe. This includes:-
making it safe to access and exit from the workplace
making and keeping floors and other walkways safe
This is a duty that falls on your employer. They may contract someone else to do the job, but the responsibility remains with your employer, providing they still retain control of the premises. There are many things that an employer should keep in check regarding their employees’ place of work. The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 impose duties on employers regarding workplaces. Although a breach of these regulations doesn’t mean an employer is liable, we use these and other regulations as to demonstrate that your employer may well be negligent.
